Spring Clean Day of Action 2016 – In association with An Taisce

As part of our Green School Ethos and our development of Local Geography we have decided in association with An Taisce to hold a spring clean event in our school on Wednesday April 6th 2016 (weather permitting).

Throughout this day we intend to carry out a number of tasks, including the sweeping of our car park and yards. We will re-seed our pitch, clean the classroom windows, plant flowers, prepare our window boxes, planters and hanging baskets, plant seeds and bulbs, check and clean our recycling bins, sweep the classrooms, undertake weeding tasks, tidy the store rooms and do a general tidy up.

Here is how you can help:

1)    Can you bring in a shovel/garden spade and/or yard brush? (clearly labelled)

2)   Can we borrow a watering can/plastic buckets & lots of basins? (clearly labelled)

3)   Do you have litter pickers that we can borrow? (clearly labelled)

4)   Would you like to donate bulbs, flowers, plants, seeds? The response to this was absolutely fantastic last year. Thank you.

5)   Have you a spare bird-table/bird feed?

6)   Do you have a spare bottle of cif, pledge, windowlene etc. that you wish to donate?

7)   Do you have additional boxes of brillo pads/scrubbers/cloths that you wish to supply?

8)   Does your Child have a hi-vis jacket and gloves? (clearly labelled)

9)   Do you have old games, toys, dress up clothing, recyclable merchandise from shops/companies (e.g. shop signage, old cash register, calculator, flyers, shopping baskets from a grocery store, unwanted spectacle frames, spectacle cases, eye charts, spectacle stands from an opticians, unwanted stethoscope/medical signage from a doctor’s surgery, merchandise from a veterinary practice/post office) all of these items will help to enhance our play/make believe resources and we would deeply appreciate your help in this area. All items collected to enhance play should be addressed to the infant teachers.

10) Please remember that you can still recycle old/used batteries in your Child’s classroom

The above items can be dropped into the school on the day of the clean up or prior to the event.

Please, please ensure all personal belongings/items to be returned are clearly labelled. On this day your Child should wear their school tracksuit, over which they should have a hi-visibility jacket/vest. Please remember an additional layer of clothing, old runners/shoes, caps & gloves may be required as we will be working in the outdoors.

It is extremely important that you furnish your Child’s teacher with a note if your Child has an allergy to any item/substance. This information must be disclosed in advance of our clean up to ensure the health and safety of all of our pupils.

We were overwhelmed by your response to this event last year.

Your efforts and co-operation are very much appreciated. We are certainly looking forward to participating in such an exciting event!
